PowerPC 601 PowerPC 601 System Design Kit The PowerPC 601(TM) System Design Kit is offered to assist system developers in achieving the lowest cost and the fastest time to market with their PowerPC 601 based systems. This kit is designed for those companies who wish to evaluate early level PowerPC(TM) hardware or who wish to develop their own PowerPC offering. It includes a functional prototype motherboard, boot ROM, schematics and other documentation that users will need in order to understand and implement a design. Also included on 8mm tape are schematics, symbols and physical models compatible with board design tools from Cadence(TM) Design Systems, Inc. Users supply their own standard PC power supply. I/O devices, cables, and cover (if needed). Accessories such as graphics cards and extra memory SIMMs are available from IBM Microelectronics. Design Kit Includes: Evaluation Hardware PowerPC 601 evaluation board Dual bus riser card 8MB SIMM Software: Boot ROM Test Program (Bring Up Driver) Documentation: PowerPC Reference Platform specification Functional Specification and User's Guide Schematics Design files -schematics -schematics symbol library -physical design component library Bill of material Wiring and EMI guide Board component placement drawings Board mechanical drawings PowerPC 601 User's Manual Core logic chips data sheets IBM system logic EPLD source files Test Program User's Guide Boot ROM User's Guide Compatible vendor information PowerPC 601 Evaluation Board - PCI/LPX Exciting New High Performance RISC-Based PC This evaluation board is designed to give both hardware and software developers a platform for creating products for the emerging PowerPC market. The evaluation board conforms to the PowerPC Reference Platform specification and is based on the PowerPC 601 single chip processor. It can operate efficiently with either big-endian operating systems such as AIX(TM) or little-endian operating systems such as Workplace OS(TM). Several other operating systems are being ported to support this architecture. The evaluation board is designed to be a low cost, high performance desktop personal computer. It features a 66MHz processor with a 64-bit local bus which operates at 66MHz. The PowerPC 601 processor includes a 32KB, eight-way set-associative, unified instruction/data cache. it is a superscalar processor which is capable of issuing and retiring three instructions per clock cycle. It includes high-performance integer, floating-point and branch units. The bus controller supports single and burst transfers. Industry-Standard Form Factor Board Supports Large Memory Subsystem The evaluation board supports from one to eight 72-bit, 70ns, parity SIMMs (JEDEC standard) for up to 256MB total memory. The board has an industry-standard LPX (9-inch by 13-inch) form factor. It is designed to operate with industry-standard PC power supplies. Expandable and Upgradeable Both ISA and PCI standard buses are supported. And an upgrade socket is available for either a 66 MHz level-2 cache or future processors like the PowerPC 604(TM). Specifications PowerPC 601 Processor 66MHz Supports POWER(TM) and PowerPC architectures Superscalar design with integrated integer and floating-point arithmetic units, branch processor, and memory manager allows for concurrent operation of integer instructions, floating-point instructions, and branch instructions Most integer instructions complete in one clock cycle A single precision multiply-add instruction can be issued every clock cycle 32KB 8-way set-associative unified instruction and data cache 256-entry two-way set-associative unified translation look-aside buffer Dedicated snoop port so that snoop operations do not slow.
