Dave.. ---------Snip--------- From: Robert Nansel To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU A while ago there was some discussion on interfaciung PICs to IDE drives. Here's a page that shows how it can be done for several 8-bit processors, including the Z80 and 6809. Perhaps this will be of some help. http://www.blkbox.com/~jdb8042/SmallSys/8bitIDE.html ---------Snip--------- From: Keith Ballantyne To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU If you're really interested in IDE (ATA, ATA-2, ATA-3, ATA4, ATAPI) go to ftp.fission.wdc.com/pub/standards This is the home for the X3T Technical group which is in charge of the standards. The formal standard has to be bought from ANSI and is around $85.00, however the X3T people archive their working copies of their latest standards. If you want a quick and dirty method to find the output of the standard IDE connector download the reference designs for the 80386EX designs from Intel's embedded development site, and download the datasheet on the Radisys R-380 chip from Radisys. These three items will give you a schematic, pin-description, and header pin-out of the IDE port. ---------Snip--------- From: Ian Cameron To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU ATA docs can be found at: ftp://fission.dt.wdc.com/pub/standards/ata ---------Snip--------- From: Ricardo Seixas There's a LOT of information and links to specifications on alt.comp.hardware.homebuilt FAQ If someone is interested: http://www.gl.umbc.edu/~msokos1/achh20.html Ricardo Seixas ---------Snip--------- From: "Brian C. Lane" To: PICLIST@MITVMA.MIT.EDU I haven't used the info yet, but I have a copy of the ata spec on my ftp site - ftp://ftp.eskimo.com/u/n/nexus/embedded/ Brian ______________________ Reply Separator ___________________________ Marc Rietman Subject: IDE Interface Hi, Does anybody know where to find the IDE protocol (HDD's). It's for a project where we want to control a CD-Rom. Thnx.
